The oval shaped island of Graciosa has an area of 61 .66 km2 , with a length of 12.5 km and a maximum width of 8.5 km. Low-lying and flat in the northern and northeastern areas, it rises gradually until the altitude of 398 metres is reached at Pico Timão, located at the centre. The island is situated at 28º 05 West longitude and 39º 05 North latitude.
